The world’s loved trampolines since they were invented by a pair of acrobats in Iowa in the 30s – so much so, trampolining is now an Olympic event. What people don’t love about trampolines is their propensity to cause paralysis, brain injuries and death.
# Trampolines: A Bouncy History of Invention and Danger
Josh and Chuck dive into the surprisingly wild world of trampolines, exploring everything from how these springy contraptions actually work (hello, kinetic and elastic potential energy!) to the surprisingly recent invention that created them in the 1930s. They trace the origins back to George Nissen, a gymnast-turned-inventor who was inspired by trapeze artists and eventually took his bouncing creation on a world tour to promote it, even partnering with kangaroos and pyramids for publicity stunts. Fair warning though: along the way, the guys reveal just how dangerously fun trampolines actually are, with Josh sharing his own near-miss with full-body paralysis at a trampoline park.
