One of the greatest unsolved historic mysteries is found in a lake atop a mountain glacier high up in the Indian Himalayas. The skeletons of as many as 800 people are inexplicably in and around the lake. No one knows who they are or what happened to them.
In this episode, Josh and Chuck dive into one of history's greatest mysteries: Roopkund Lake, a remote glacial lake high in the Indian Himalayas known as "Skeleton Lake" because of the hundreds of human remains scattered across its frozen shores. What makes this mystery so captivating is that initial theories—from soldiers to traders to victims of disease—all fell apart when modern genetic analysis revealed the skeletons belonged to people from completely different ancestries and time periods, including Mediterranean people who died centuries apart, raising the bizarre question of how these wildly different groups ended up in the same remote location over the course of a thousand years.
